Choosing between Thai massage and oil massage is easier when you compare what the appointment involves. Think about whether you want stretching, whether you are comfortable with oil on your skin and how you prefer to communicate pressure. Neither name guarantees a particular intensity or experience at every shop.

Menu examples checked on 28 September 2026: Fah Lanna describes an oil-free Thai treatment with clothing supplied, plus separate aromatherapy and hot-oil options. The Wonderful Oasis package combines Thai, Swedish and aromatherapy techniques in its oil massage. These are examples of why the exact menu matters.

Choose by your preferences

If you want to remain clothed and avoid oil, ask for an oil-free Thai session and confirm that you are comfortable with the proposed stretching. If you prefer an oil treatment, check the product and privacy arrangements first. If avoiding stretches matters most, say so explicitly with either choice. Choose pressure separately and ask the therapist to adjust it.

Thai massage: ask about movement and clothing

A traditional Thai massage appointment may include pressure and assisted stretching. Ask how much movement the session involves and whether the therapist can omit particular stretches. Confirm the clothing arrangement and whether the treatment takes place on a mat or another surface.

Oil massage: ask about products and privacy

Before selecting an oil treatment, ask which product is used and whether an unscented option is available if you prefer one. Confirm how covering and privacy are arranged. If you will need a shower before your next activity, check whether facilities are available and whether their use is included.

Pressure is a separate preference

Do not choose only on the assumption that Thai massage must be strong or oil massage must be gentle. Tell the business what pressure you prefer and repeat it to the therapist before starting. During either treatment, you can ask for an adjustment, skip an area or stop.

Make a fair comparison

Compare the same duration and ask for the full price. If a menu offers a combination, find out how much time is allocated to each style. For two people, ask whether you can choose different treatments at the same appointment time.
